Elizabeth Armbrust, 94 passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 15, 2025 surrounded by her family.

Elizabeth was born in 1931 in Nemetker, Hungary, an only child to her parents; Rufina and Frank Ulrich. They were pushed out of their village after WW2 in 1946. They lived in Germany until they immigrated to the United States in 1956 when Elizabeth was 25 years old. She began a journey of creating a life filled with love, hard work, determination and devotion to her family and to God.

Elizabeth worked many different jobs after arriving in the USA while learning the language including; Nannie, House staff, plastic parts stamping and assembly for Firestone, Cook and Baker for Sacred Heart of Jesus Hungarian Church and Hall. It was the love of baking with her mother that created a business; Ulrich Bakery that started by word of mouth in Akron and their Nut Rolls (Kalachi) were sent all the way to California. They perfectly created authentic Strudel, Nut Rolls, Tortes and cookies. She shared her love for meticulous European baking and excellent German/Hungarian cooking throughout her life. Elizabeth also enjoyed growing her own vegetables, raising chickens, nurturing fruit trees and growing beautiful flowers both inside and outside of the house.

Elizabeth met George Armbrust, her husband, at the German American Club in Akron, OH. They were married at St Bernard’s Catholic Church on June 7, 1958. Together they created a family with 2 sons, founded in love, family values, strong work ethic and devotion to God. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before George passed away. Elizabeth always found her joy in her family being all together. She loved all of her family so very much. She moved in with her son Jim and his family almost 13 years ago and enjoyed living amongst the activity of a growing family. This was most recently evident as she was determined and truly “was waiting” to meet her only great grandchild before she went home to the Lord.

Elizabeth also found her joy and peace in her faith. She was a devout Catholic and leaned in on this faith during good times and hard times. She shared this faith with her family and all of those around her. She was a member of St Joseph Church in Suffield and Holy Family Church in Stow. She was also a member of the German Family Society in Brimfield where she enjoyed the community of sharing the Donauschwaben Heritage.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband George, her parents Rufina (Elmauer) and Frank Ulrich, and great granddaughter, Violet Davis.

She is survived by her children David (Patricia) Armbrust, Jim (Jill) Armbrust; her grandchildren, Andrea Brewer, Catherine Armbrust, Emily (Jonathan) Davis, Jonathan Armbrust; and her great grandson, Jonathan Davis Jr.; cousins Helmut Elmauer and Monika Schwab in Germany, Margaret (Richard) Horvath, Linda Fleming, Lorie (Bob) Elmauer; cousin-in law, Louise Elmauer; sister-in-law, Anna Armbrust and nieces, Maria and Elizabeth Armbrust in Nagynyarad, Hungary; dear family friends, Ann and Adam Braun; as well as many loving cousins and friends, all who will forever cherish her memory.

Elizabeth’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all of the nurses; especially Jen and Crystal and staff; especially Shacora and Renee from Sanctuary Hospice that cared so compassionately for her and our family in these last 6 months and especially in the last few weeks.

Visitation services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron, OH from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on November 24, 2025. A Funeral Mass will be held at St Joseph Catholic Church at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 with Father David Misbrener officiating and Deacon John Green assisting. Internment at St Joseph Cemetery will follow.
