Elizabeth “Betty” McGonigle, 90, longtime resident of Barrington, IL passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2025. She was born on January 3, 1935 in Chicago, IL to parents Clarence and Catherine Schultheis.

Betty was a gifted pianist, she spent countless hours bringing joy to others through her playing. She also had an adventurous spirit, and she found solace and wonder in sailing. She was also a counselor for all, where she offered guidance, compassion, and healing to countless individuals. Her skill of listening was a source of strength for many who came to her in times of need.

But above all else, family and faith were the anchors of Betty’s life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her home was a place of love, laughter, music, and prayer. Her unwavering faith was evident in the way she lived—with kindness, humility, and an open heart. She was a member of St. Anne Parish of Barrington for 58 years where she served as a long-time volunteer.

She is survived by her children, Andrew (Donna) Blake, Thomas (Siri) Blake, John (Jeannie) Blake, Kathryn (Stephan) Hayslip, Diane (David) Bennett, Gary (Sally) McGonigle, Diane (Roger) Toevs, Darlene (Daun) Medaris, grandchildren, Carly, Andrew (Heather), Matt (Melia), Kimberly (Max), Ben (Alyssa), Eric (Lauren), Julia (Evan), Mark (Abby), Neil, Elizabeth (fiancé Drew), Renee (fiancé Adam), Scott (Katie), Paul (Britney), Dayna, Branden, Daniel, Kit, Jessica, Matthew, Anna Marie (Don) Pete Raymond (Jen), Susie (Bill); 17 great grandchildren and 3 on the way; 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Thomas McGonigle in 2023; her daughter Joan Tamburelli, her brother and sister, and by her parents.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 8:30 AM until the funeral mass at 10:30 AM at Saint Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St (Corner of Franklin and Ela Sts), Barrington, IL 60010. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery will follow after the Mass.

For those not able to attend the visitation, the mass is open to all. There will be a reception at 1:00 at Morettis in Barrington following the burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington. All are invited to join the family.
