Elizabeth Ann Gripp-Bynon was born at home on the family ranch on Powder River on August 21, 1928, the cherished daughter of Walter and Annie Thompson. Her childhood was one of adventure and resilience. She rode her Shetland Pony to school on the 21 Ranch from first through fifth grade and later graduated from Johnson County High School in 1942. In December of 1946, Betty married Kenneth Gripp, and together they raised two sons, Jim and Mike. In 1978, she found love again and married James Bynon with whom she shared many joyful years. Betty was deeply involved in her community. She was a dedicated member of the VFW Auxiliary since 1951 and actively supported local 4-H programs. She enjoyed watching and listening to all local sporting events. In 1997 she fulfilled a lifelong dream of visiting Scotland, her parents' homeland, accompanied by her grandson Ty.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Annie; her husband James; her brother Ben Thompson; and her sisters, Margaret and Jessie Thompson.
She is survived by her loving sons, Jim Gripp (Annie), and Mike Gripp (Vicky); her grandchildren, Guy Gripp (Dayna), Ty Gripp (Jenn), Summer Rios (Edwin), Samantha Burtis (Alex); and five great-grandchildren. Vivyan, Vyolet, James, Sadie and Mia.
Betty will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her unwavering commitment to her community, and the deep love she had for her family.
