Elizabeth (Betty) Jones (Carroll)

Born to Catherine and Albert Coogan in the Bronx, N.Y. on March 27 1938. Died May 14 2024 at the age of 86.
Elizabeth graduated St. Jean's High School in NYC and worked at NBC before getting married and raising a family. She raised her family in the Bronx and was best known for her basketball skills and love of the game. She went on to be a basketball coach at Holy Family School in the Bronx and then Preston High School in the Bronx. She was also an avid and loyal fan of St. John's Red Storm basketball team where she talked about their coach, Lou Carnesecca, as if he was family. Growing up watching St. John's games on TV was a bigger event than major holidays. She was the life of the party right up until her passing and was the center of all of our family gatherings.
Betty felt a deep connection to the FDNY and NYPD and wore their badges proudly on her neck at all times. Most of her clothing had one of these logos on it. If she wasn't wearing one of these logos she could be seen wearing a Jane Bakes or Jane Foodie sweatshirt.
After retiring she spent ten years working in Jane's café in Pearl River where the role of boss suited her well.
A devout Catholic she was an active parishioner at St. Aedan's Church in Pearl River.
Beloved mom of four children Catherine Carroll-Spadt (Greg Wittmann), Jane Carroll (Joe Cotter), William Carroll (Beth Carroll), Michael Carroll (Bernadette Carroll). Grandmother to Michael Naan (Elsuida), Tommy Carroll, Catherine Spadt, Anne Carroll, Ryan Carroll, Pearse Carroll. Great-grandmother to Logan Naan, Aiden Naan and Jane Naan.
She was loved by so many and will be deeply missed. Family was everything to her.
She is predeceased by her parents Catherine and Albert Coogan along with all of her siblings: Tom Coogan, Catherine Swinburne and Patricia O'Hanlon, along with her first husband, William Carroll and her second husband, Robert Jones.

In lieu of flowers, as my sister wrote, go buy a bottle of wine and spend a little time with the ones you love. This is what my mother lived for. She also contributed to St. Jude's on a regular basis and quite often said she did this because she was grateful for her four, healthy children.
