Elizabeth (Betsy) Catherine Byrne McCarville, age 92, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025 in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Born July 5, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, Betsy graduated from Seton Hill College. She also earned a Masters Degree from Hofstra University. Following early years in Massapequa Park, she was a resident of Saint James, NY for most of her adult life, before relocating to Bonita Springs.

An exemplary and award-winning educator, Betsy was admired and respected by staff, students, and parents for her tireless devotion to her school and the people in it. She served with devotion as a teacher, an assistant principal, and a principal in the Middle Country School District on Long Island, NY. She is perhaps best remembered for her decades of service as head principal at Selden Middle School. After her retirement, she continued to share her expertise as a temporary administrator in various school districts, including Wyandanch.

Betsy loved traveling to exotic locations such as Africa, Australia, and the Galapagos with her grandchildren, spending time with extended family at Lake George, NY, and watching or attending almost any kind of sporting event with her son, Pick. She was beloved by both friends and family for her generous, caring spirit.

Betsy is preceded in death by her parents, Betty Burns Byrne and Harry Byrne. She is survived by her sister, Joan Byrne, of Basking Ridge, NJ. She was fiercely proud of her four sons and their spouses: Timothy McCarville and wife Cathy of Hague, NY, Daniel McCarville and wife Debra of Rocky Point, NY, Matthew McCarville and wife Karen of Honolulu, HI, and Michael (Pick) McCarville of Bonita Springs, FL. Betsy is also survived by her adored and adoring grandchildren: Matthew Charles McCarville, Caitlin McCarville Mohr, Sarah McCarville Barillaro, Kevin Daniel McCarville, and Nancy Rowland McCarville. Her great–grandchildren include Taylor Mohr and Brady and Connor Barillaro.
