Elizabeth "Ms. Lib" Brown Gaskins, born on March 17, 1943, in Hartsville, South Carolina, was a devoted evangelist, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. She departed this life on April 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service to others.
Ms. Lib was known for her unwavering dedication to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She often held services and hosted gospel groups in her home, embodying her cherished belief that "I never want to see anyone pass away without being saved." Her passion for helping others extended beyond spiritual guidance; she was a constant source of support for the less fortunate, providing food and necessities to those in need.
Ms. Lib delighted friends and family with her famous fried chicken. Her warm hospitality and generous spirit were hallmarks of her character. Additionally, she had a deep appreciation for gardening, especially her beloved azaleas, which flourished under her careful nurturing.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lisa Hicks (John) of McBee; her grandchildren, Kevin Gaskins (Tina) of McBee, Casey Otto (Derek) of Cassatt, Justin Hicks (Laura) of Cowpens, Cory Hicks (Alyssa) of Hartsville, and Abby Rogers (Austin) of Kershaw; as well as her great-grandchildren, Xander, Lelond, Kayden, KayleeA'nna, Boone, Knox, Eva, Autumn, Violet, Hagan, Colton, and Warren, who affectionately called her "CoCo". She is also survived by her special fur baby, Oreo, also, Jim Johnson and Walker Canada whom she loved like they were her sons.
Ms. Lib was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Gaskins; her daughter, Wanda Kaye Gaskins; her son, Michael Joe Gaskins; her daughter-in-law, Gail Gaskins; and her siblings, Drew, Tom, Abigail, Josephine, Doris, Jackie, and Dan.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life and legacy at the Norton Funeral Home And Crematory in Hartsville. Visitation will be held on April 25, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and her funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM. at the Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Following the service, burial will be in the Westview Cemetery.
Ms. Lib's impact on the lives she touched will be felt for generations. Her faith, love, and compassionate spirit remain a guiding light for her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
