Elizabeth "Libby" M. Poliak, 89, of Rockford, passed away at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. She was born June 1, 1932, in Mullins, South Carolina, the daughter of Clyde and Ruth (McCoy) Sherrill. She was married to Eugene "Sarge" Poliak for 68 years. They met in Camp LeJeune, later making their life together in Rockford. Libby spent her life giving love, encouraging it andspreading it. She had the biggest heart and would always try to help people in need. She loved having fun, playing uno or scrabble, hitting the slots, shopping and creating designs.
She is survived by those who loved her most, her children, Phil (Danielle), Lisa, and Renee (Dave); grandchildren, Tim (Ashley), Breanna, and David Jr.; great-grandkids, Truly, Alex, and Piper; sisters, Sandra and Barb; and all of her nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, and husband, Eugene "Sarge" Poliak.
A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2022, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. A memorial service will follow the visitation, starting at 3:00 pm, with Deacon Peter Adotta officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ProMedica Hospice, formally known as Heartland Hospice. Please share memories and condolences online at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
