Elizabeth Schmitt, 91, of West Caldwell, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life well lived.
Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Tuesday, August 5, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, with entombment to follow at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover.
Born in Weehawken and raised in Secaucus, Elizabeth pursued her education with determination, earning her bachelor's degree that provided her with the skills to become a kindergarten teacher in the Carlstadt School District. In the classroom, she was enthusiastic, fun, and deeply committed to helping young minds grow.
After raising her children, Elizabeth continued her support of others by working alongside her husband, George, as a bookkeeper for his company, Schmitt Builders Supply Company in Secaucus. She also gave generously of her time, volunteering for many years at Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge with a close-knit group of friends.
Elizabeth found joy in tending her garden, sewing with care, and sharing time with her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Elizabeth Busch, her beloved husband, George Schmitt, and her sister, Anna Mae Downing.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving children, Janet Baldwin and her husband Murray, Karl Schmitt, and Susan Buzby and her husband James. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Jessica Schmitt and Michael Schmitt.
