Elizabeth "Liz" Wilson, age 93, of Andover, MA, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was known as Betty to her family, Liz to her friends, and Tish to her beloved husband.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Liz was the cherished daughter of Agnes and George Charney. She grew up in Bridgeport and graduated from Harding High School, where she met her future husband, Herbert Wilson. She attended the University of Bridgeport and earned a degree in dental hygiene in 1952. From 1952 to 1958, Liz worked as a dental hygienist in the Bridgeport Public Schools.
Liz married Herbert Wilson in 1956, and together they built a life first in West Peabody, MA, and later in Andover, MA. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her Catholic faith, love of flower arranging, gardening, crafts, and needlework. From 1972 to 1978, she worked as a health aide in the Andover Public Schools.
Over the years, Liz was a dedicated volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the West Peabody Garden Club, and the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts. She was also a Bible study leader, a Eucharistic minister, and a CCD teacher at St. Augustine's Church in Andover-roles she especially cherished. She enjoyed traveling abroad to visit churches and holy sites important to her religion.
She is survived by her children: Michael Wilson and his wife Lisa Childs Wilson of Exeter, NH; Caryn Wilson of Newburyport, MA; and Robert Wilson of Waterville Valley, NH. She was the proud grandmother of nine: Katharine Wilson, Elisabeth Mount, Rebecca Murgo, Allison Wilson, Micaela Wilson, Matthew Wilson, James Wilson, Sarah Wilson, and Grace Wilson; and great-grandmother to Tyler West, Thompson Showers, and Gabriel Mount.
Liz was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert and her siblings, George, Florence, and Rose.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine's Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 11 AM. A burial will follow at St. Augustine's cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a memorial luncheon directly after.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society in her memory.
Liz will be remembered for her kindness, steady and gentle presence, unwavering faith, and the deep, lasting impact she made on all who knew her.
