Elizabeth B. Zanowiak

Elizabeth B. Zanowiak, 86, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at Hickory House with her daughters and other family by her side. She was the wife of the late Paul Zanowiak, who passed away in 2001.

Born in Paterson, NJ on September 6, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William and Frances DeGraw Bertsch. Following high school, Elizabeth went on to graduate from Temple University with a degree in horticulture. She worked with the mentally disabled as a horticultural therapist in Catskills, New York, as well as Philadelphia. Elizabeth spent time as a reporter/photographer, and eventually worked as an environmental scientist at the Environmental Protection Agency. Over the course of her life, Elizabeth did a lot of volunteer work, and she was a member of East Brandywine Baptist Church. Elizabeth loved gardening and all things nature, and in her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, photography, knitting and crocheting. She was an avid reader, often proclaiming that she was a "forever student" because she never stopped learning.

Surviving are her children Jennifer A. Brumbaugh of Coatesville, Trisha E. Brozyno, wife of Mark, of Coatesville, and Matthew G. Zanowiak, husband of Mary Beth, of Lancaster; grandchildren Rebecca Sulpizi (Alfie), Matthew A. Zanowiak (Raechel), Steven Brumbaugh (Nikki Donati), Courtney Smith (Brian), Jessica Brozyno, Justin Brozyno and Gregory Zanowiak; great grandchildren Jake, Matthew, Jr., Samantha, Emily, Alexander, Donati, Houston and Beauden; siblings Lee Bertsch (Janet), Geri Mumm (Richard), George Bertsch (Renee), Judy Platt (Doug), and Mary Frances Kelkar. She was preceded in death by her daughter Tami J. Zanowiak, and her siblings Ellen Gambatese and William Bertsch.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 11 AM at East Brandywine Baptist Church, 999 Horseshoe Pike, Downingtown, PA 19335. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 AM prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private.
