Elke Auguste Ella Bridge (née Scherpe), born on September 27, 1941, in Hamburg, Germany, was the beloved daughter of Hans-Alvin and Emma Scherpe. She passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, at Schneck Medical Center.
Elke met her husband, Will Norman Bridge Jr., during a travel tour of Europe that began in Berlin, Germany. It was the ultimate meet-cute: Will noticed Elke sitting alone on the bus and, thinking she looked lonely, decided to sit next to her. She was never lonely again. Their connection was immediate, and they soon married after a courtship that blossomed into a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. Elke moved to America to be with Will, and they shared many happy years together before he preceded her in death.
Elke was especially devoted to her family. She leaves behind her two daughters, Christina "Chris" Gingery (Nelson) and Eike Scherpe Bridge; five grandchildren; Dustin Gingery, Reagan McGhee (Tyler), Aspen Eckhart (Ben), Will Bridge, and Colorado Bridge; and sister-in-law, Karen Crane. Her legacy of love, support, and laughter will live on through them. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Hans-Jurgen, and is survived by his wife, Margot Scherpe, with whom she shared a close and enduring bond.
A skilled and accomplished CPA, Elke began her career with Blue & Company Accounting, Tax, and Consulting Firm before later opening her own company, Bridge & Associates, where she continued to serve the community with expertise and professionalism.
A passionate community volunteer, Elke was a long-time member of the Alpha
Beta chapter of PSI IOTA XI sorority. She was also the Board President and Treasurer of Meals on Wheels for 31 years, where her leadership and tireless efforts helped nourish and care for those in need.
A world traveler with her husband, daughters, and grandchildren, Elke cherished her trips to her homeland of Germany, where she made lasting memories with Will and her daughters. She also explored Europe, Africa, and Australia, among many other places, always enjoying the experiences and connections that came with her travels.
In her spare time, Elke found great joy in playing bridge with her closest friends every month-a tradition that allowed her to stay connected with those she cherished most.
