Ella Grace Copeland

Ella G. Copeland of Ashland, OH passed away on August 12, 2022, at the age of 84. She was the Daughter of the late Zoe Greene and late Ruby Green; Beloved Wife of James C. Copeland, happily married for 62 years; Loving Mother of Catherine (Garry) Gryczan, Carole Copeland (John Ohnemus), Christina Copeland; James C. Copeland, Jr.; and Jeffrey (Chrystal) Copeland; Proud and doting Grandmother (affectionately called Mimi) of Alexia (Mac) Gardon, and Evan Ohnemus; Cole, Dylan and Tatiana Gryczan; Anna Krook Copeland; Taylor and Bram Copeland; and Fond Sister of Mildred (Bill) Carden and Phyllis (Mac) McDonald. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Ella Copeland dedicated her life to her family and community. A graduate of The University of Tennessee (Bachelor of Science in Microbiology) and Rosary College (Master of Arts in Library Science); Research Assistant at Oak Ridge National Laboratories; Co-Owner of The Dairy Treat & Donut Shoppe in Upper Arlington, OH; Research Librarian at The Federal Reserve Bank Chicago; Information Specialist at Amoco Research Center, Naperville, IL; Librarian and Head of User Services at Ashland University; Retired after 22 years of service as Director of the Library Learning Resource Center and Head Librarian at The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute (ATI) and Tenured Faculty member of OSU. Recipient of a number of awards and recognition for her contributions to academic libraries including the 2005 Recipient of the Jay Ladd Distinguished Service Award awarded by the Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO) https://www.alaoweb.org/aboutalao/jay-ladd-award.php.
In retirement, Ella continued to be an avid reader, birder and enthusiastic OSU buckeye fan; she became a Master Gardner and the President of the Art of Gardening Club in Ashland, OH and a volunteer at Kingwood Center Gardens in Mansfield, OH; she and Jim sailed Benita (a beautifully appointed wooden trawler boat) on many cruises on Lake Eire out of the Sandusky Harbor Marina with the Harbor Bay Yacht Club; she enjoyed taking her children and grandchildren to ride the magical carousel in Mansfield, OH, watching the hot air balloons fly over their home for the Ashland Balloon Fest and many other lifetime adventures.
