Ellen Dawn Cullen

Ellen Dawn Cullen, 83, of Freehold, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at The Manor. Dawn was born in Freehold and lived a long, full life in her treasured hometown. A graduate of St. Rose of Lima grammar school and Freehold High School, she enjoyed many years as a homemaker before starting a career serving her community in the Monmouth County Courthouse. Before retiring, she was employed as a court officer for over thirty years. She was a staple of the courtrooms and offices and will be missed by many former coworkers. Dawn was a devout communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church.

Dawn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack Cullen. They would have been married sixty-one years this year. Dawn's life revolved around her cherished family. She is survived by her children, Leanne and Michael Haefner, Eileen and Joseph Hurd and Scott and Melissa Cullen and her grandchildren who she so fiercely loved: Jessica Gravatt, Paul, John and Joseph Hurd and Braeden, Jackson and Emerson Cullen. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, MaryJane Whalen and Midge Neiberlien, many nieces and nephews and her beloved, faithful dog, Maggie Cullen.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Friday, September 19th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 East Main Street. A funeral liturgy will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church on Saturday, September 20th at 8:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.
