Ellen Hootman

Ellen Hootman, 73, of Mineral City, died Sunday, April 13, 2025 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton. Born November 16, 1951 in Canton, she was a daughter of the late James D. and Rose I. (Lang) Phillips. Ellen was a 1971 graduate of Strasburg High School. She enjoyed cooking and baking holiday treats for her kids and grandkids. No one left her home with an empty stomach. She also loved spending time in her flower beds, and had a real green thumb for making everything look beautiful. She was so proud of her grandkids and great grandkids as her house was always adorned with their photos. She also loved all animals, especially dogs, as she adopted and cared for several over the years. Ellen attended Broadway Global Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. She also volunteered at several local soup kitchens. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry Hootman and is survived by her children Timothy "Tim" (Brittany) Eberly of Canal Fulton, Ohio, Tabatha Gebhart of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Kenneth "Kenny" (Angela) Hancock of St. Clairsville, Ohio; grandkids Mason Eberly, Brielle Eberly, Rose Eberly, Ella Eberly, Alexis (Graham) Cowieson, Gavin Gebhart and Makayla Hancock; great grandkids Cohen Cowieson and Crew Cowieson; a brother Jeffrey "Jeff" (Lynn) Phillips of Bolivar, a nephew Christopher (Charlene) Phillips and a niece Annie Rose Phillips. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 18, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Lebold-Smith Funeral Home in Bolivar. Pastor Floyd Stanfill will officiate and burial will follow at Dover Burial Park in Dover. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 AM until time of services at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.
