Ellen Harlene McPheeters (1943-2024), 80, of Lee's Summit, MO, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024.
Ellen (Harlene) was born Nov 7, 1943 in Hannibal, MO to Harlen McMillin & Della Mae Renner.
Harlene married Daniel Chapman (deceased) in 1962. Later married Chuck McPheeters (deceased) in 1982.
She is survived by her sons, David (Tiffany) Chapman of Wentzville, MO, Greg (Allison) Chapman of Lee's Summit, MO, brothers Ronnie McMillin of Jefferson City, MO and Jay (Janet) Draudt of Hannibal, MO; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
Harlene was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and was part of the church choir and taught Sunday school class. She was educated in the Hannibal Public Schools, graduated in 1961 and also attended Hannibal LaGrange College.
Harlene was passionate about her job, working with Dr. Plowman in the early years as an assistant. Working at DSS for State of Missouri for 22 years in her later years. Her co-workers always commented on how Harlene was the best dressed all those years.
One thing about Harlene, is that you would never see her without her hair and makeup done, whether she was leaving the house or not. She took pride in making herself and others feel beautiful on the inside and out. Harlene loved keeping her nails long and perfectly painted at all times.
Everyone who knew Harlene knew being outside and working in her yard gave her great pleasure. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting holiday celebrations and impromptu gatherings at her home. Her door was always open to family and friends and of course the glass of wine after a hard day or a martini or two. She treasured her opportunity to travel to many countries across the globe over the years, with her favorite being England. Loved to sing and dance at her favorite watering hole in Jefferson City with family, friends and some famous politicians.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ascend Hospice in Lee's Summit. The family would like to thank Addington Place in Lees Summit for their exceptional care of their mother.
There will be a private family service held soon to celebrate Harlene's life and legacy. Her memory will continue to be honored by family and friends through the sharing of stories and memories of the times they cherished together. It should bring peace to everyone who loves Harlene that she is watching over us all smiling and drinking one of those martinis.
