The Beloved Seamstress and Hargrove Family Matriarch, Mrs. Eller Wease Patterson Hargrove, passed away peacefully at her residence on October 18, 2023, at the age of 87.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and unwavering dedication to her family and craft.
Born on January 24, 1936, in Davie County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Estella Patterson. Mrs. Hargrove was educated in the public schools of Davie County, where she graduated from Davie County Training School. She went on to attend Rowan Technical College. After attending college, Mrs. Hargrove went on to work for BB&T for 17 years. She later became the owner and operator of her business H&G Sewing and Alterations.
Mrs. Hargrove displayed an early passion for sewing. Guided by her innate talent and boundless creativity, she honed her skills and became a respected seamstress in her community. With nimble fingers and an eye for detail, she transformed fabrics into exquisite pieces of art, leaving a trail of beauty in her wake. Her creations, whether it was a bridal gown, a delicate quilt, or a simple dress, were a testament to her craftsmanship and love for her work.
But beyond her talents, Mrs. Hargrove was a devoted matriarch in her family. She was the heart of her family, an embodiment of love and strength. Her home was a sanctuary, filled with warmth and laughter, where generations gathered to share stories, celebrate milestones, and find solace in her comforting presence. Her unwavering support, wisdom, and kindness touched the lives of everyone around her.
She was a member of The Refuge Community Church. In her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Hargrove instilled important values in her family-faith, love, resilience, and the importance of hard work. Her guidance was a beacon, lighting the path for her loved ones, ensuring they grew into responsible, caring individuals.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius Hargrove, stepson, Cornelius Hart; brothers, Andrew Patterson and John Patterson; and sister, Estella Victoria Pruitt.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, McSherry Neal Hargrove (Merna) of Hope Mills,
NC and Eric Lee Hargrove of Cooleemee, NC; brother, Charles Patterson (Sue) of Westberry, NY; daughter- in- law, Julia Hart of E. Spencer, 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
As we mourn the loss of this remarkable woman, let us also celebrate the vibrant life she lived. Mrs. Hargrove's legacy will live on through her family, in the stitches of the garments she created, and in the memories of those who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her family and friends find comfort in the beautiful memories they shared with her.
