Ellis J. Humphrey, of Rolla, Missouri, went to be with his Lord on July 29, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on October 2, 1937, in Vessie, Missouri. Ellis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Humphrey; his sons, Robert Humphrey and wife Deborah of Webb City, Missouri, and Troy Humphrey and wife Stacy of Durant, Oklahoma; his daughter, Gail Jannick and husband Larry of Columbia, Missouri; along with 18 cherished grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. A faithful member of Greentree Christian Church, Ellis lived his life grounded in faith. He was deeply devoted to God and made reading the Bible a daily practice. His quiet strength, humility, and steadfast values were a guiding light to his family and all who knew him. Ellis worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family, taking pride in every job he did. His diverse career included working as a butcher, a lineman, and a custodian. He eventually retired from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources as a Custodial Supervisor. No matter the task, Ellis believed in doing it right-always striving for perfection in the details. He was a man of many interests. A passionate St. Louis Cardinals fan, Ellis was known for his "armchair coaching" and spirited commentary during the games. He also loved reading, jigsaw puzzles (especially with his grandchildren), and going on spontaneous road trips-preferably the ones where he didn't have to drive. Whether the trip had a destination or was just for sightseeing, Ellis enjoyed every mile and every moment. Ellis never complained about the hardships in life. Instead, he modeled love, loyalty, and commitment through every trial and challenge. If he could speak today, his words would be simple: "I love my Lord, my wife, and my family." He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
