Elmer Gene Casey

Elmer Gene Casey, age 84, of Richlands, Virginia, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at his home, following a lengthy illness.
Elmer was born on November 28, 1936 in Russell County, Virginia to the late Andrew and Gracie Newberry Casey. He had worked as a coal miner for Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. Mr. Casey was also a member of the Bible Way Church in Jesus Name at Raven, Virginia and was a lifelong resident of the area.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Gaynell Casey; three sons, Sidney Boyd, Eugene Boyd, and Ricky Boyd; four brothers, Melvin, Henry, Delmer, and Herman Casey; sister, Arbie Casey; half-sister, Dorsey Osborne; and one grandson, Sidney Boyd, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Carol Gaynell Armes Casey;
Son, Randall "Chuck" Boyd and wife, Melia of Honaker, Virginia;
Three brothers, Jack Casey of Swords Creek, Virginia, Sonny Casey and wife, Carey of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, and Gary Casey of Jacksonville, Florida; Grandchildren, Tim Boyd and wife, Joan, Tracy Laney and husband, Craig, Ricky Boyd, Jr. and wife, Tonya, Erica Hunley, Crystal Odom, Jessica Boyd, Gene Boyd, Jr. and wife Angel, Shereena Keeler and husband, Pete, Kristi Lomax and husband, Chad, and Sidney Boyd Pendergrass;

Several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and several step grandchildren also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Legacy Hospice, The Bible Way Church in Jesus Name, and CVS Drug Store for their kindness during Mr. Casey's illness.

Funeral services for Elmer Gene Casey will be conducted at 2 PM on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Reverend Dannie Shortt and Reverend Austin Burke officiating. Members of the UMWA will conduct a memorial service. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia where Tim Boyd, Gene Boyd, Ricky Boyd, Garrett Laney, Jeremy Odom, and Anthony Armes will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Armes, Ronnie Armes, Dr. Larry Mitchell, and Dr. Randy Forehand. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 6 PM on Monday evening, August 9, 2021.
