Elmer J Ford

Elmer "Red" J. Ford, 97, passed away on June 30th, 2025, at the Ashtabula Regional Medical Center in Ashtabula, Ohio. Elmer was born on April 27th, 1928, in Ashtabula, Ohio. He graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1947 and joined the United States Air Force in 1949, where he served for 3 years as a Staff Sergeant. While stationed in Hawaii with the United States Air Force, Elmer met his best friend and longtime love, Nancy T. (Kaya). Elmer and Nancy were married on September 2, 1952. Elmer was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula and an active Elder of West Ave. Church of Christ. He was an avid coin collector, loved golfing, antiquing, flea markets, and Thursday night auctions. He was a longtime member of the Elks Club. Elmer was perhaps best known for his many years of service as a postal carrier in the community. Even decades after retiring he was frequently recognized by residents from his postal route who would stop him and tell him, "You used to be our mailman," and he would repeat from memory their name and address. Elmer also ran a successful insurance agency in Ashtabula for many years. Above all, Elmer enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Susan (Gregg) Geisinger, Jeffrey (Mary) Ford; daughter-in-law, Barbara (Paul) Ford; grandchildren, Joel (Tina) Ford, Jared (Alaina) Ford, Justin Ford, Timothy Wall, Brian Geisinger, Michelle (Andrew) Bailey, Kevin Ford, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Nancy T. Ford; son, Paul L. Ford and son-in-law, Gregg Geisinger. Private family services will be held, and he will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville.
