Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shadel's Colonial Chapel - Lebanon on Aug. 15, 2025.
On August 14, 2025, the cape was hung up for the last time as Dale Koehler, our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, and true-life Superman in a pearl-snap shirt and boots, took his final ride into Heaven. He was 79 years old, but to those who loved him, he will always be larger than life and our everyday hero. Born on March 15, 1946 in
Lebanon, MO, Dale lived a life marked by strength, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to his family. He was everything to everyone-protector, provider, teacher, and friend. Whether he was fixing what was broken, building something from nothing, or simply showing up for the people he loved, he never hesitated to put others first. On December 31, 1966, he married the love of his life, Betty, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, hard work, and love. They were blessed with four daughters, who thought he hung the moon long before anyone else. A true outdoorsman, Dale found peace in the woods, whether hunting in the deer stand with his grandchildren or calling in turkeys for his son-in-laws and grandsons. When he wasn't out in the woods or in the field with his cows, he could often be found in his garden. He loved watching his favorite westerns-drawn to the grit, courage, and loyalty of the heroes who will always remind us of him. His hands were never idle, always working on a new project, building houses for and with his family. His legacy is not built on the things he made but the memories he leaves behind. For Dale, a pearl snap shirt and boots weren't just clothes-they were part of who he was: strong, steady, hardworking, and ready for whatever the day brought. That same work ethic defined his career, too. Dale dedicated 35 years to the Missouri Department of Transportation, where he was known for his hard work, steady hands, and pride in a job well done. After decades of commitment, he retired from MoDOT, leaving behind not just miles of improved roads, but a legacy of integrity and reliability. Of all his roles, "Pa" was his favorite. He was always there cheering on his grandkids and great- grandkids in their many sporting events, sitting in the stands with a proud smile, cheering them on with the same enthusiasm he had for every part of their lives. He will forever be known for rides to Jurassic Park in the side-by-side to throw rocks in the river, his pocket full of Lifesavers, and his community jug full of sweet tea. His love for his family knew no limits, and he made sure each person felt like the most important person in the world. Dale is survived by his loving wife, Betty, his four daughters, Annette Howell (David) of Grovespring, MO, Marsha Kimrey (Steve Farner) of
Lebanon, MO, Glenda Crews (Chris) of Phillipsburg, MO, and Ronda Newlin (Dan) of
Lebanon, MO; and his seven adoring grandchildren, Blake Kimrey, Kelsey Ruble (Wes), Ethan Howell (Bailey), Erica Cantrell (Caleb), Kaylea Rivard (Brannon), Tyler Crews (Shannon), and Ryan Crews (Cam); seven great-grandchildren, Drake, Hale and Brock Ruble, Haigen Rivard, Colton and Lauren Howell, Arliss Crews, and two on the way; three sisters, Brenda Kimberlin and Linda Green (Bill), both of
Lebanon, MO and Becky Sing (Jr.) Lynchburg, MO; sister-in-law, Mary Koehler of Falcon, MO; brothers and sisters-in-law, W.H. and Vicki Cotrel, Roy and Edie McCann, and Doug and Nancy Hillme; numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind countless friends, hunting buddies, and neighbors whose lives he touched with his generosity and good humor. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Albert H. and Sylvia B. (Brackett) Koehler; and three brothers, Ralph, Billy and Ron Koehler. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort knowing that our hero's work here is done, and his legacy of love, hard work, and faith will live on in all of us. We will miss his steady hands, wise words, and the way he made every person feel like family. Fly high. We'll see you again someday.
