Eloise J. Day, 85, of Mehoopany, passed away on Tuesday Nov. 2, 2021, at her home with her family at her side.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert J. Day Sr.
Born in Mehoopany on Nov. 16, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mildred Arnts Decker. She was affectionately known to many by her nickname Weezy.
She was a member of the Mehoopany United Methodist Church. She previously served as Mehoopany Township Supervisor, a cub scout leader, and Sunday school teacher. She was the co-owner of the Lantern Coffee Shop and a very accomplished seamstress making both daughters their wedding dresses.
Eloise loved gardening, baking, cooking and politics. She worked by her husband's side every day on the family dairy farm for many years. Later in life she worked outside the home at the Riverview Center, the Mehoopany Dairy Bar and Scholz' Orchard Greenhouse.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons: Robert, Jr. and wife Joanne, Loren and wife Lori, and Douglas and wife Amy; daughters: Connie Girven and husband Randy, and Cynthia Robinson and husband Zane; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; many nieces and nephews; sister, Margaret Thompson and husband Robert; sister-in-law, Carole Borgeson and husband James; and brother-in-law, Jack Simmers.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Inman and husband Ralph Inman; sister-in-law, Joyce Huffsmith and husband, Edward Huffsmith; and sister-in-law, Beverly Simmers.
Eloise's funeral service was held on Saturday, Nov. 6, from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc. 73 W. Tioga Street, Tunkhannock. Interment was in Union Hill Cemetery, Mehoopany. A viewing was held before the service on Saturday.
