PRAIRIE DU CHIEN - Elroy Michael "Mick" Deininger, age 75, of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, passed away quietly on January 29, 2026, at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg. He was born February 18, 1950, the son of Elroy and Gloria (Harris) Deininger and was raised in Patch Grove, Wisconsin. Elroy passed away when Mick was 4 years old which was a difficult time for Mick. In 1959 Gloria was united in marriage to Emil Schmit and he became an important part of Mick’s life.
Mick graduated from West Grant High School in 1968. He loved music and during his high school years he formed a popular band along with brother Joe called "The Federation" that played at local venues around the area. After graduation, he attended La Crosse Technical School then went on to work as a corporate security investigator for Southland Corporation in Texas. Opportunities led him to live in Florida in the 1990’s where Mick found that his soul felt at home in the sun-soaked state. After a number of years, he moved to Boston working in consulting. But he loved the beaches, the sunsets, and all of the abundant fresh seafood and moved back to Florida. He took pride in showcasing Florida's unique spots, culture and hidden gems to visiting loved ones. He lived there until 2024 when he moved back to Wisconsin to be near family.
Mick was fond of many things but the most important thing in his life was his family and his Catholic religion. He also loved his sports teams, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Survivors include his children: Michelle Tejada of Texas and Chad Deininger (Georgette) of Florida; grandchildren: Miguel Tejada of Texas; his siblings: Joe (Peggy) Deininger, Regina Fleming, Pam (Jeff) Buttikofer, Peter (Jill) Schmit; and many nieces, nephews and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Dana Fleming; and nephew, Gabe Fleming.
Private family graveside services will be held at St. John’s Cemetery, Patch Grove. Kramer-Grau Funeral Homes & Crematory in Bloomington is entrusted with his care.
512 Canal St, Bloomington, WI 53804
