Elton John “June” Brown, Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on September 26, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on August 9, 1947, June was a man of great character with an infectious personality, and a dedicated member of his church and community who never met a stranger.

June’s devotion to God was evident in his daily life. He will be fondly remembered for his love of joke telling and performing magic tricks, which he often showcased during family gatherings, children’s ministry, and anytime he had the opportunity to make someone laugh. He possessed a wide array of talents that included woodworking, carpentry, and even balloon artistry. He also treasured time spent playing games with loved ones.

His unwavering commitment to family was evident throughout his life, spending quality moments that will be cherished forever. June was especially proud of his role as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Opelousas, where he devoted over ten years of service. He also faithfully served as Assistant Chief for Fire District #3 for more than a decade.

June is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Martha G. Brown; his daughters, Heidi Brown, Melody Brown, and Melissa Roy and her husband, Trevor; his brothers, Nolton Brown and his wife, Gloria, and Wilbert “Sue” Brown; his sister, Lena Dupre; his adored grandchildren, Jacob Allen, Tristan Mansfield, Samuel Waas, Kalli Roy, Jaxon Waas, and Hudson Roy; and many loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton Brown, Sr., and Mercedes Richard Brown; his brother, Allen Ray Brown; and his sister, Patricia “Pat” Kauffman.

A visitation and memorial service will be held in honor of June at the First Baptist Church of Opelousas, located at 3835 Interstate 49 South Service Rd, Opelousas, LA 70570. The visitation will take place on October 1, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM.

June’s legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched with his testimony, kindness, humor, infectious personality, and unwavering love for Jesus his Savior, as well as family and friends. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
