Elva Jamison Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. - Cumberland on Dec. 15, 2025.
Elva Jean (Taylor) Jamison, 94, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully December 12, 2025 at The Village at Orchard Ridge.
Born September 25, 1931, in Cumberland, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Roach) Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Richard; her sisters, Anna Taylor and Marion G. Sachs; and her brother, David Michael Taylor.
Elva graduated in 1949 from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, Maryland. Her husband attended cross-town rival Allegany High School which led to a lot of good natured ribbing regarding the superior school. She and her husband lived in many states across the country including Missouri, New York,
Connecticut, Michigan, and Texas before settling in Winchester after retirement to be near family and hometown.
In addition to making a wonderful home for her family, she had a career as a school library assistant and physician's assistant. She was an avid bowler her entire life and was a long time member of the Senior League at Northside Lanes in Winchester. She also devoted countless hours to volunteering at Winchester Medical Center. She enjoyed playing bridge and sudoku, traveling the world with her husband, reading, watching classic movies, gardening, and conquering the New York Times crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her three daughters, Kathy L. and husband Chuck Keller, Judith A. Jamison, and Patricia K. Jamison; a sister, Shirley M. Squires; grandsons, Matthew B. Keller and wife Megan, Bryan A. Miller, and Ethan T. Miller; a great-grandson, Bryan S. Keller; her nephews, Denny Sachs and John Squires; and niece, Mitzie Bowman; as well as distant relatives.
Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Cumberland, Maryland, with her husband and family.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Blue Ridge Hospice, My Potential, and the residents and staff of The Village of Orchard Ridge for their warmth, care, and companionship. Special thanks to her former neighbors on Artillery Road who were always helpful and attentive, and to Mitzie Bowman for her energy and devotion to Elva during her time at The Village at Orchard Ridge.

I'm overwhelmed with sorrow to see this news. I knew Dick for many years, as both a professional associate and a close personal friend, and Elva always made me feel warmly welcomed when I was able to visit them in Winchester.

I loved her indomitable spirit, her outgoing personality, her energy, and her warmth. That's how I will always remember her. May God grant her family every condolence.
