LEIGH WEHKING, age 57, of Janesville, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, in rural Waterville.
Born in Windom, on March 14, 1966, he was the son of Elvin and Betty (Kruse) Wehking. Leigh graduated from Fulda High School, Class of 1984. Following high school, he attended the University of Minnesota – Waseca, where he earned his Associate of Applied Science in Landscape Management. It was during his time there that he met Jody Miner. On May 20, 1989, they were married on the football field at the University. In his early career, Leigh worked as an arborist for some time, he would later go on to work as a Production Manager for Environmental Tillage Systems.
Leigh loved his kids and his family very much. He was very protective of them and was always making sure that everyone was safe. He was very involved within their lives from participating in Boy Scouts, to reestablishing the pole-vaulting program at JWP for his daughters to compete. He was very much an outdoorsman who could talk to anyone, especially if it involved hunting and fishing; he was Head Coach and founder of the Trap Shooting team at JWP and genuinely enjoyed being a mentor for youth outdoor programs; he was a volunteer with a program to help get veterans and their families out on the lake to fish; his brother hosted some foreign exchange students, and Leigh took them hunting and gave himself the proud title of “International Hunting Guide”. One of the things Leigh enjoyed the most was seeing others achieve happiness, and success, especially if it was within nature. He was a member of Christ Community Church in Waseca.
He is survived by his mother, Betty; his wife, Jody; his children, Wyatt of Westwood, NJ, Mikaela and Isaac both stationed at O’ahu, HI, and Samantha of Janesville; his brother, Troy (Brenda) Wehking, and their children, Emma and Olivia all of Avoca. He is preceded in death by; his father, infant daughter and his father-and mother-in-law, Maynard and Marlene Miner.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Christ Community Church in Waseca.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the church. The family has requested In Lieu of Flowers to please make donations to:
