MUNROE, Elvira "Sis" Elder of Braintree, MA passed away suddenly but peacefully at her home on January 26th, 2025. Wife of the late Patrick "Roscoe" Munroe; Loving mother to Theresa and Brian Ricciardi of Braintree, Edward and Amy Munroe of Hanover, Sean and Erin Munroe of Braintree, and James and Katie Munroe, also of Braintree. Adoring Grandmother to James Fay, Cameron and Danielle Ricciardi, Nicholas Ricciardi and fiance, Amy Polewaczyk, Margaret, Conor, Clifford, Ella, James, Michael, Gavin, and Evelyn Munroe. Great Grandmother to Jude, Oliver and Nolan Fay, and Rae Ricciardi. Sis is also survived by her brother Edward Elder of Aliquippa, PA, and predeceased by her brother Eugene Elder of Ben Avon, PA. Sis also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sis was born on Neville Island, PA to Edward and Elva Elder. She met the love of her life, Pat, while working at the Pentagon. They moved to South Boston and then to Quincy where they raised their family and formed many lasting friendships.
Sis's greatest joy was to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Sis spent countless days at sporting fields and gyms, cheering on her children and then grandchildren as they participated in a variety of sports. She never missed a game and would stay for the duration no matter the weather. The only times she could not stay were when multiple games had been scheduled at the same time, and she would somehow figure out how to make an appearance at each game. One could count on seeing Sis sitting in the stands with her ever present Dunkin Iced Tea, chatting with parents and other grandparents, while also never missing a key play or an opportunity to cheer her loudest. Sis was incredibly loyal to the Celtics and Patriots, always sporting her game shirt, blanket, pillow, etc. for whichever team was playing.
Sis was a devout Catholic and member of St. Mary's parish in Quincy before moving to Braintree and joining St. Clare's parish. True to her Christian faith, she found great joy in helping someone in need, whether it was a ride to an appointment, an impromptu lunch date, a trip to the grocery store, or a welcoming smile and warm conversation. Sis's selflessness and loyalty were evident from the stands of sporting events to the local establishments she frequented. Sis was a beloved and caring matriarch and the center of her family. She will be dearly missed by so many.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, January 31st, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1st, at 10:30 AM in St. Clare Church, 1244 Liberty St., Braintree. Burial will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Sis has always exemplified what a loving, caring, sharing Mother and Grandmother would be defined as. Her ability to deal with the activities, whether high or low was steadfast. Some may say it was Pat Munroe, who
was the Commander-in Chief of the brood, but it was Sis that maintained true
law and order within those family confines.
She was a pleasure to be with and spoke well of everyone and a complete joy to
be in the company of.
