Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory Oxon Hill from Dec. 29 to Dec. 31, 2025.
Elwin Moses Lee, Jr. was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 25, 2025, after a life filled with faith, family, friends, music, art, and fishing. He was predeceased by his father, Elwin Moses Lee, Sr., mother, Hilda S. Lee, and brother, Gregory. Elwin is survived by his sister, Jacqueline, brother, David, (Lisa), and nephew, Jackson. Elwin Moses Lee, Jr. was born on October 3, 1956 in
Norfolk, Virginia, the first born son, and first grandson to his maternal and paternal grandparents. Elwin was baptized at an early age at Fort Foote Baptist Church. He lived the majority of his life in Maryland with frequent trips to North Carolina to visit cherished relatives. Elwin graduated from the Oxon Hill High School Class of '74 and studied art at Mount Olive College and the University of Maryland. He was a gifted artist. Elwin excelled in creating beautiful pen and ink drawings. Friends and work associates often called on Elwin to draw illustrations for special projects. Another passion was music. He was an accomplished, self-taught drummer who played in many different bands in the D.C. area. He had a blast playing the drums with other musicians/classmates at his 40th high school class reunion. Elwin worked for the federal government for 36 and 1/2 years, all at the Office of the Architect of the Capitol. He served in five different positions for the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Elwin was a fan of the Redskins, Nationals, and University of Maryland Athletics. He enjoyed watching his nephew, Jackson, pitch for his high school team. His hobbies were vast. He was a highly-accomplished, bass fisherman. He ran the Marine Corps Marathon, completed scuba-diving PADI certification, and participated in dives in Key Largo and Palm Beach, Florida. Elwin studied Tae Kwon Do and was certified by Jhoon Rhee. Elwin was a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend. He honored his mother and father. He would spend vacations visiting his dad and brother in North Carolina. When Elwin's mother became ill, he visited every day and provided loving care. He was the ultimate big brother who looked after his brothers and sister. He was thoughtful and loved purchasing gifts for others, especially at Christmas. Elwin was very proud of his nephew, Jackson, who committed to play baseball at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Jackson brought Elwin great joy. It is comforting to know that Uncle Elwin has a front-row-seat to cheer for Jackson when he pitches for the UNCW Seahawks. Elwin was a loyal friend who loved to hike, play ball, fish, and jam with his buddies. He was famous for ordering appetizers and at least one take-home meal after a delicious dinner with friends. Elwin was kind-hearted and recognized hard work. He would go out of his way to show his appreciation for service workers. Elwin had a zest for life and a great sense of humor. We love you, our dear Elwin, and will treasure all the memories you leave with us.
