We will always remember Emilia Guerrero Alaquinez, whose kind heart touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Emilia, also known as "Emily," to her friends. Emilia passed away on March 14, 2025, in Pearsall, Texas. Originally from
San Antonio, Texas but her last 8 years resided in Pearsall, Texas. She was 92 years of age. Her loving family was by her bedside in her last moments. Emilia married Juan Alaquinez in 1952. They were members of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Catholic Church (South San).
Emilia was born on May 02, 1932, in Charlotte, Texas. She came from a large family of eleven children. In her youth, Emilia was the caretaker of her younger brothers and sisters, as her parents worked in the cotton and vegetable fields as migrant farm workers. At an early age, she learned to cook and make stacks of tortillas for her family. She preferred childcare and cooking to working in the hot sun, she often said. She became a great cook and baker, often whipping up simple but complete meals on a moment's notice. She also made the most tasting tamales and empanadas during the holidays.
She was the ultimate host also. She would welcome anyone into her home. And the first thing she did when someone visited was to offer them a meal – whether they were hungry or not! However, once you smelled her cooking, one could not resist eating her delicious meals. She always had food ready to go in the refrigerator. Emilia's talents were many, she was an extremely accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed her crocheting and knitting. Her home, her gardens and her plants were her pride and joy. She enjoyed shopping and discovering new antique/boutique shops with her daughter Nancy.
Emilia will be remembered for her unwavering love of her family. She spent many years caring for her young grandchildren while their parents were starting their careers. Visits to the Dairy Queen and South Park Mall are favorite remembrances with her grandchildren. Her laughter will also be missed as she had an almost uproarious laugh that seemed to rise up from the depths of her soul.
Emilia is survived by her children Gilbert (Irma), Richard (Linda), and Nancy (Richard); her sisters Julia, Minerva and Yolanda her brothers Genaro, Jesse, and Humberto; her grandchildren Gilbert Jr., Gabriel (Judith), Gary (Tina), Candice, Joseph, Rene, Vanessa, Justin (Misty) and Jayden (Adrianna); her great-grandchildren Ceanna, Naudia, Logan, Ayden, Madison, Avery, Finley, Jeremiah, Jordan, Jackie, Aaleya, Dezmin, Neriyah, Nova, Xander and her great-great-grandchildren Santiago, Miguel, and Amaia Renae. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Juan C. Alaquinez Jr., her parents Gumecindo & Margarita Guerrero, her sister Senaida, and her brothers Gumecindo, Jose, Felipe, and Jose Ignacio.
Her Life and legacy will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, Cemeteries & Crematories, 1700 SE Military Dr,
