Our radiant Emily Chapman Maestas, wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, beloved by so many relatives and friends, died October 19th of breast cancer at age 45.
Emily was intelligent, intuitive, full of fun and energy a shooting star whose light was all too brief for those who loved her. She truly loved life and embraced its many facets. She was adventurous, loved to dance, enjoyed nature and exploring new places. Never afraid of hard work, Emily was a natural born leader, inspiring many whether as a schoolmate, co-worker, relative or acquaintance. We have all been changed for the better having crossed her path.
Born in Tucson, Arizona on October 16th, 1978, Emily graduated from the University of San Diego in 2012 with a Masters in Counseling, finding great joy serving as a counselor to school aged children. She earned her undergraduate degree from University of Arizona where she thrived as President of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Emily was a beloved member of Salpointe Catholic High School Class of 1997 where she was captain of the cheer squad. She made innumerable lifelong friends all along the way.
Emily was kind and generous, always ready with an encouraging word for those around her. She truly cared deeply for those lucky enough to encounter her and loved her family fiercely. All of her many accomplishments paled in comparison to the love she found and pride she had in her two children. Conversations with her seemed to solve all ills. Emily had a knack for squeezing the most fun out of any situation, city, or gathering. She appreciated a good brunch and did not enjoy driving a car, making her a great match for New York City for a time, where she met her beloved husband and got engaged. She never wanted good times to end and we will love and miss her forever.
In addition to her husband, Nicholas, of San Mateo, California, Emily is survived by her parents, Paul and Sharon Chapman, her children, Elise and Isaac, her brothers, nieces and nephews, and in-laws. She is preceded in death by her brother, Dan Bryan, who no doubt met her at heaven's garden tire swing.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the care provided by the medical staff at Stanford University who worked tirelessly for Emily and her family.
A celebration of life will be held at 10am on Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, San Mateo, CA. Private interment at St. John's Cemetery, San Mateo, CA.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to her children's education fund either tax deductible via check to St. Matthew's Catholic Church (memo line: Maestas Family) or via GoFundMe here: https://gofund.me/4d84283d
