Emily Marie Daeger McMullen

Let us remember and celebrate the life of Emily Marie Deager McMullen. Emily was 101 years old and resided in her own assisted living apartment at St. Mark Village, Palm Harbor until a few months ago. Emily was born in Largo, FL. She had a brother Richard and two sisters, Beatrice and Esther.
After she graduated from Largo HS, Emily and Esther worked for a gladiola company together. Beatrice taught Emily how to sew and Emily made much of her and her children's clothing.
After the end of World War II Emily went on a blind date with Allen McMullen. They dated, fell in love and married at Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church on November 8, 1943. They built their unique rock home in Safety Harbor where they raised their children, Kathleen, Maurice and Bruce.
Emily was very involved in her church such as the women's circle and teaching Bible School and Sunday School at Safety Harbor Presbyterian Church. In addition, she was a Cub Scout leader and involved in numerous other community services. Emily was voted Mrs. Safety Harbor in recognition of the many contributions she made.
She and Allen moved to Gatlinburg, TN where he managed a fresh-made candy store and Emily managed the wood craft retail store.
They were both very active in the Gatlinburg Presbyterian Church.
From there they retired and returned to Safety Harbor where they joined Northwood Presbyterian Church and delivered Meals On Wheels for 15 years. They eventually moved to St. Mark Village in Palm Harbor where her joy was taking care of the flower garden and making new friends.
In retirement she and Allen loved to travel, immerse themselves in nature and enjoyed serving others. Emily and Allen were very happily married for 68 years before his passing.
Emily is survived by her daughter Kathy (Alan) Panama City, FL and sons Maurice (Missy) Townsend, TN and Bruce (Sissy) Maryville, TN. She also leaves seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She loved all of her nieces and nephews, with an especially close relationship with her sister, Esther Ronnloff's children.
A celebration of life will be held on December 20th at 11:00 at the Northwood Presbyterian Church located at 2875 SR 580, Clearwater FL
