Emma Louise Carlberg beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
Emma was born June 16, 1933, in Collins, Mississippi to Homer Lee and Ava Carter. She grew up and attended school in Collins. In high school she was involved in FHA, 4-H club, class officer and co-captain of the basketball team. She graduated in 1952.
After high school Emma went to work for the telephone company as an information operator. That is where she met and later married Waylon Stewart. They married July 15, 1955. Together they raised two wonderful children: Philip and Sandra. Several years after Waylon's accident she married Charlie Carlberg. They married on August 28, 1965. Their family grew by adding Charlie's children: Melanie, Eddie, Ricky and Ronnie.
Throughout her life, Emma lived wholeheartedly for the Lord. She taught Sunday School, did outreach for her ladies class and visited many people who were shut-ins and could not attend church.
Emma and Charlie met in Mississippi, then he was transferred to Oklahoma, then to Denver, then to Dallas. After Charlie's retirement they moved back to Oklahoma, They met many dear friends along this journey. Emma stayed in contact with most of her friends throughout her lifetime.
Emma and Charlie enjoyed traveling after his retirement. They traveled all over the world. They specifically enjoyed cruising. Her favorite place to visit was Hawaii.
Emma loved to cook, especially desserts. She always had a homemade cake, pie or cookies prepared for anyone who came to visit. She loved working in her flower beds and watching the Thunder.
Emma's family and friends would describe her as loving, giving, selfless, supportive, generous, organizer, joyful, hospitable, servant, and most of all THE BOSS!
Emma is survived by her brother Sonny and his wife Janie, sister Dutchie and husband Franklin, brother H.L. and wife Marie, daughter Melanie, son Eddie, son Ricky and his wife Jill, son Philip and his wife Valerie, daughter Sandra and her husband Todd. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her cousins, nieces, nephews and many great friends.
Emma is preceded in death by her husbands, Waylon and Charlie, her son Ronnie, her sister Betty, and her mother and father.
A service to remember and celebrate Emma's life will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Crawford Family Funeral Service in Edmond, at 2:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, Emma requested that donations be made in her memory to Ministries of Jesus, The Meadows Center for Opportunity, or the American Cancer Society. Links for making a donation may be found below, under Memorial Contributions.
