Emma Williamson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilbert Funeral Home - Plaquemine on Jan. 31, 2026.
Emma Jo Dupont Williamson, age 89, of Plaquemine, went to be with her heavenly Father on January 28, 2026. Emma Jo was born in Plaquemine on November 12, 1936, to Joseph Hart Dupont and Emma Baist Dupont. Emma was blessed to grow up in a loving Christian family, sharing countless joyful moments in Plaquemine with her brothers, Frankie, Joe, Jimmy and William C. Dupont and her sister, Betty Jane Dupont.

She graduated from Plaquemine High School before continuing her education at Southeastern University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science. Emma's dedication to education was evident by her many years serving as a social worker, a high school teacher and finally as the director of the school lunch program for Iberville Parish, a job she held for over 30 years.

While in high school, Emma met the love of her life, William Seth "Billy" Williamson whom she married in 1960. Billy was the owner of Billy's Motorola, and a retired Sheriff Deputy with the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office. She was a devoted wife who, together with Billy, shared a love of travel and LSU sports. She enjoyed the holidays, particularly Christmas, and loved spending time with family and friends. Throughout her life, Emma was known to have a quick wit and a dry sense of humor which could always keep you on your toes. She was a true fan of fashion and took great pride in her appearance and how she dressed throughout her life. Emma was a devoted grandmother to all her grandchildren and her generosity and affection for them will be missed.

Emma was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her husband of 61 years. She is survived by her children: Lynda W. Carville of Baton Rouge, Lynette "Lacey" Williamson of Atlanta, Cynthia Williamson of Brusly, Billie Jo Turner of Orlando and William S. Williamson, II and wife Carmen, of Atlanta; her grandchildren, Kristina LeJeune, Macy Williamson Ourso and husband Gunnar Ourso, Garrison Carville, Benjamin LeJeune, Chloe Richard, Amanda Williamson Tournas, Hailey Williamson, Emma Turner and Abbie Turner, and her great-grandchild, Ellie LeJeune. Emma is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the support and care shown Emma by special caregiver Liz Dickerson and the Moore Care Caregiver Service, Hospice of Baton Rouge and by the staff of Glencrest at Siegen throughout the past year.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, in Plaquemine. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 a.m., celebrated by the Very Reverend Jamin S. David, J.C.L. Vicar General, with interment at Grace Memorial Park immediately following the service. Pallbearers will be John J. Price, Benjamin Lejeune, Kenny Hebert, Garrison Carville, Joe Dupont, Tal Dupont and Gunnar Ourso. Honorable pallbearers will be Ricky Brown and William Dupont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. Please share any memories of Emma which you wish online at www.wilbertservices.com.
