Emmett Whitten Obituary

PERRY - Emmett B. Whitten Sr., 69, died Monday, September 15, 2003 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 18, 2003 at Perry Presbyterian Church. Entombment will follow with military honors at Perry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 7-9 pm, Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Family suggests memorials to Perry Presbyterian Church Educational Fund, P.O. Box 574, Perry, GA 31069.

Mr Whitten was born in Worth County, the son of the late James Franklin Whitten and Ora Bell (Nasworthy) Whitten. He was an Army Veteran and member of the Perry Presbyterian Church. He was a retired produce manager with 25+ years at Piggly Wiggly and 16+ years with Colonial Stores.

Survivors include: his wife of 33 years, Frances Cox Whitten; children, Tony and Karan Johnson of Sally, SC, Jamie & Michele Whitten of Perry, Lance and Melody Whitten of Kathleen; sister, Eva Mae Stephens and brother, Shelly Whitten (Cathy) all of Sylvester; grandchildren, Benjamin Whitten, Mathew Whitten, Justin Whitten, Makalya Whitten, Hannah Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Samuel Johnson, Ethan Johnson, Jason Whitten, Christopher Whitten, Kimberly Whitten, Houston West and Brooke West; and a # of nieces and nephews.

We have always considered Emmett to be one of the finest "goodwill" ambassadors the City of Perry ever had. In his own quiet way he represented the best of what a good citizen ought to be. He will be missed by his many, many friends.
