MIDDLETON - Dorothy L. (Thorpe) Whitten, 90 of Middleton, beloved wife of the late Payson H. Whitten, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Hathorne Hill in Danvers surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Cecil R. and Kathleen E. (Baltzer) Thorpe. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. Dorothy continued her education completing courses in Secretarial and Administrative studies.

Dorothy spent many years working at Hunt Hospital in their payroll department where she was known for her dedication, unwavering work ethic and attention to detail, up until the hospital closed. She then went to work for the town of Danvers, in their building department where she lent her skills and support to the community she cherished, rounding out a career of over 35 years of dedicated service.

A lifelong athlete, Dorothy enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing volleyball, basketball, and especially softball which she played in her youth and continued into adulthood where she participated in adult softball leagues. Her passion for athletics was matched only by her love for her family. She was deeply involved in her children's activities and was always present, cheering and supporting them at every game. Dorothy's home was warm and loving filled with laughter as she hosted countless gatherings for family and friends, often centered around the pool making many lasting memories along the way. Family was her priority, and she made it her mission to ensure that everyone around her felt loved, well-fed and happy. Dorothy was an avid sports fan, proudly cheering on her beloved Red Sox and Patriots. She rarely missed a game. Her infectious spirit, dedication to family and zest for life will be carried on in the memories of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.

Surviving Dorothy are her children, Kay-Beth Benson and her husband Lou of Middleton, Scott Whitten and his wife Melissa of Ocala, Florida, and Steven Whitten and his wife Aimee of Haverhill, her grandchildren, Jennifer Dinh and her husband Tri, Craig Whitten and his wife Kate, Paul Whitten and his wife Jennifer, Steven Whitten and his wife Natalie, Madison Joyce and her husband Josh, Zoe Whitten and Cameron Whitten, her great-grandchildren, Jordan Tomacelli, Payson and Bradyn Whitten and Lillian and Lucy Whitten.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) DANVERS on Thursday, August 14th, 2025 from 4 to 6:30 PM with a service to follow at 6:30 PM.
