Emogene "Jean" B. Georgiades passed away on November 2, 2025, in Sarasota, FL. She was born on December 24, 1934, to Beatrice and James Blankenship in West Virginia, where Emogene grew up.
She attended Fairmont State College and graduated from James Madison University with a degree in Library Science. She was employed by Baltimore Co. schools as a librarian.
She met her future husband, Richard, a dental student, and they married in 1958. They moved to San Antonio where Richard was commissioned Lieutenant in the Air Force as a dentist.
Emogene was employed by the San Antonio school system.
Emogene and Richard moved to Sarasota in 1960 where Richard opened his dental practice.
Enjoying helping others, Emogene was involved in education and volunteering at various organizations including SPARCC, Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Senior Friendship Center, Resurrection House and Church of the Palms food pantry. In addition, she was also involved in many Bible studies. She was an avid reader and grateful for wonderful friends with lunches, travel, antiquing and attending her grandchildren's activities.
Emogene was preceded in death by her brother, Vaughn (Margaret) Blankenship of Orlando and her sister Betty (James) Gilbert of Mt. Pleasant, SC
Emogene is survived by her husband, Richard; two sons, Mark (Stephanie) of Tampa and Craig (Amanda) of Sarasota; three wonderful grandchildren, Jack of Tampa, Meiyin and Shawn both of Sarasota; and half-sister Sharon (Robert) Weese of West Virginia.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 10th at 11am at Church of the Palms 3224 Bee Ridge Rd Sarasota, FL 34239.
