Eric C. Hoffmeister of Carmel, IN, passed away on November 26, 2024, at the age of 86. He is survived by his dear wife Lois (Kamin) who he married on May 13, 1961 in Detroit, MI. He is also survived by son Kurt Hoffmeister and wife Peggy; daughter Lori (Hoffmeister) Daniell & husband Dayne; grandchildren: Audrey and husband Bobby Hughes, Devon Hoffmeister and Drake Hoffmeister.
Born in New Kensington, PA on December 30, 1937, he is preceded in death by his parents, Eric M. and Frieda (Hubner) Hoffmeister. As a son of immigrants, he shared loving connections his whole life with extended family in Germany.
Eric grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He earned a BA degree from Michigan State University with a minor in art, a passion he pursued for many years painting and sculpting. The art he leaves behind is treasured by his whole family.
Eric worked for General Motors for 40 years. He started as a Journeyman die-maker before getting his BA degree. He founded and managed Detroit Diesel's first packaging lab, ending his career with GM as an international service warehouse planner and financial director, retiring from the Allison Transmission in Indianapolis. His positions at GM afforded him the opportunity to travel worldwide exploring new countries, cultures and sites. He shared his love of travel with his family on numerous trips around the USA and other countries, an influence of exploration passed along to his children and grandchildren.
Throughout his life, nature was his playground with many small creatures, especially turtles in northern Michigan, owing their lives to his rescue efforts. He owned and loved many birds, but he had a special bond with his last bird, an Amazon lilac-crowned parrot that lived over 40 years. It’s only fitting that Eric became a “Parrot-Head” fan of Jimmy Buffet later in life.
A loving husband, father and grandfather with a special gift of humor, Eric will be missed more than these words can convey.
Visitation will be held from 12pm until 2pm, December 13, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel (325 E. Carmel Dr. Carmel, IN). A Funeral Service will be held at 2pm, Friday, December 13, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel. Burial will follow the funeral service at Hamilton Memorial Park Cemetery.
