Eric Mathias Jefferson was born to Mathias Lonzo and Cozetta Kay Jefferson on October 10th 1977, in Chicago Il. Eric grew up in
Oak Park, IL where he attended Beye Elementary and graduated from Emerson Middle School in 1991. Eric loved to swim and spent many days at Oak Park's summer camps and pools, where he learned to dive from the highest diving board in Oak Park.
In 1991, Eric moved with his mother Kay, and sister Melanie to Carol Stream where he attended Wheaton North HS, 1991-1995. During his high school career Eric excelled at track & field and was named the captain of track and field team. He contributed to his team earning a trip downstate to the IHSA Boys Track and Field State Finals in 1994. At the school his picture is hanging in remembrance of being the best track runner. Eric loved people and made a host of friends. Eric was baptized at Christ Tabernacle MBC in Chicago in 1982. After moving to DuPage County, Eric and his family joined Wheaton Christian Center. Eric regularly participated in the church's youth group. Eric soon began inviting his friends to attend. Eric met and made friends and many of those relationships remained over 30 years.
Music was Eric's passion. He loved all types of music including gospel music that reminded him of his childhood days in church. Eric often shared his favorite songs with everyone. He also loved barbeques. He loved to barbeque for his friends and was proud of his grilling skills. He never wanted to miss a chance to get together with family and friends.
Eric continued his education at College of DuPage for Communication and Broadcasting and graduated with an Associates Degree. Eric started his career at Power Home Remodeling as supervisor for outside sales team. Eric worked as a financial planner for college students at DeVry University. Finally, he ended at Amazon as a Learning Ambassador for the distribution center.
Eric met his future wife Lisa Hunt in 2005 while working together at DeVry University. They lost touch for a few years then reconnected in 2016 when they fell in love and married on January 17, 2020 at Wheaton Christian Center Church.
The majority of Eric's life he studied the bible and enjoyed hearing and reading scriptures shared with him by family and friends.
Eric is survived by Lisa Jefferson (wife), Jenae Evans (daughter), Mathias Lonzo (father), Cozetta Jasso (mother), Melanie McDuff (sister), Krystal Cormack (sister), Tiffany Wilson-Washington (stepsister), Annie Griggs (stepsister), along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Eric was preceded in death by grandmothers Christine Taylor and Laura Lonzo, Auntie Bobbie, Auntie Mamie, Uncle Bob, stepbrother Keith "Shawn"
A visitation for Eric will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Homes & Crematory, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville. Interment will follow at Concordia Cemetery in
Forest Park, IL.
