Eric D. Kesterson, age 55 of Richmond Indiana died Friday morning, August 16, 2024, at his
residence.
Eric was born on December 9, 1969, in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The son of the late Dennis M.
Kesterson and mother Diana L. Veritas. He was the oldest child of two and had a younger sister
Melissa Lawler. Eric was a 1988 Centerville High School graduate and proudly served 4 years in the
US Army. During his school tenure, Eric was a track athlete, involved in martial arts, and
weightlifting. In the military, he worked as a mechanic and a combat medic. He was a part of the 586
Company and was stationed in Germany. He did a couple of tours overseas, and was a part of the
Persian Gulf War. Eric was a landscaper/groundskeeper at IU East for many years before he
decided to make a change and pursue his medical background. Eric graduated from Ivy Tech
College and obtained his associates degree in nursing and became an LPN. He worked at an
extended care facility in Richmond and in Liberty Indiana for several years before he had to
medically retire due to health issues.
Eric was a loving husband, father, and papaw. He was involved in all his children and grandchildren's
sports, attending every practice and game; he even coached a few years as well. He enjoyed the
outdoors and loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren with him
and teaching them. He was a mentor to friends, his children's friends and anyone who needed
advice. Eric had a big heart and would help anyone at any time of day or night. He enjoyed holidays
with family and his favorite was Halloween. He was an avid horror movie buff. Eric was a proud
veteran and hardworking nurse.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Claudia Kesterson, Three children Troy A. (Bailey)
Kesterson of New Castle, IN, Amanda M. Kesterson of Richmond, IN, and Amber N. (Case) Back of
Cambridge City, IN. Grandchildren Ayden Abbott, Ivy and Wyatt Kesterson-Lewis, and Carson Back;
Sister, Melissa (Mike) Lawler of Fort Wayne, IN, and mother Diana L. Veritas of New Castle, IN, also
along with several cousins and aunts and uncles.
Eric is preceded in death by his Father, Dennis M. Kesterson, Uncle, David M. Province, Nephew,
Jonathan Lawler, and Cousins, Joshua Hudson and Nickolas Bostal.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on Saturday September 28th, 2024 from 3pm-6pm at the
Veteran's Memorial Park in Wayne County, RIchmond IN, 47374. Address is 7 E Main St. Richmond
IN 47362. Military Rites will be conducted by the Wayne County Honor Guard at 3pm Saturday.
