Eric Donald Smith

February 16, 1972 – July 13, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Eric Donald Smith on July 13, 2025. Eric was born on February 16, 1972, in Buffalo, New York, and moved with his family to Janesville, Wisconsin in 1976. He spent his youth in Janesville, Beloit, and Orfordville, Wisconsin.

Following high school, Eric married his high school sweetheart, Stacy Rae Peterson. He was later married to Brenda Lynn Hoffman, April Christina Nackos and Julie Patak .

Eric attended Blackhawk Community College after high school and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering, something he was most proud of. He eventually settled in Texas, where he became an ASE Certified Master Technician. He spent many years working in the automotive industry and later served as an Extended Warranty Claims Adjuster. His career evolved as he earned additional certifications and transitioned into the field of pipeline inspection, working as a corrosion and coating inspector. He found great fulfillment in this role, which allowed him to explore remote and scenic parts of Texas.

Eric had a deep love for cars, cats, horses, Mexico, and the music of Jimmy Buffett. He was a man with a generous and tender heart-always quick to help others and offer a kind word. Though his path was not always easy, he faced life with resilience, humor, and an enduring capacity to care deeply for people and animals alike. His complex spirit and compassionate soul left a lasting imprint on those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert James Smith and Mary V. Lesko. He is survived by his sisters, Wendy and Denise, and his stepfather, Bruce Lesko.

In lieu of flowers or cards, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Eric's name to a local animal shelter or equine rescue.
