Eric Marvin Verts

Eric Marvin Verts, 67, of Elkton, Virginia passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Eric was born on April 13, 1957, in Aiken, South Carolina. He was the son of Peggy Dellinger Berman of Woodstock, Virginia and Charles E. Verts of Ocala, Florida, both of whom survive.

He is survived by his wife Susan A. Verts (Lutz) to whom he married in July 1991.

In addition to his wife and parents, Eric is survived by sisters, Gay Verts (Steve Bauserman) and Melody Strickland (Robert); father-in-law, Richard L. Lutz Sr.; brother-in-law, Richard L. Lutz Jr., and his beloved cats, Timber and Smokey.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Marvin "Tuck" and Algie Showman Dellinger; his mother-in-law, Reccie Lutz; his stepfather, Jake Berman Jr., and his fur babies, Sam and Bubba.

Eric was a member of the United Church of Christ in Conicville. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School and Triplett Tech in Mount Jackson, class of 1975 and the Colorado School of Trades to become a licensed gunsmith.

Eric was employed with Manville in Edinburg, Merillat in Mount Jackson, Henkel Harris in Winchester and retired in 2022 as a machinist from Montebello Packaging in Harrisonburg.

He was an avid outdoorsman, a NASCAR enthusiast, and a football fan. Eric was extremely creative and talented as there was not a construction project he could not complete or an engine he could not repair.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. A private family service will be conducted at a later date.
