GUILDERLAND - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Erman Joseph Cocci, age 85, on May 8, 2023, at St. Peter's Hospital.
He was born in Endicott, N.Y., on June 11, 1937, to the late Anna and Frank Cocci. Erman grew up in Endwell, graduating from Endicott High School. He went in the Marines for four years and returned to Endwell. He obtained an associate degree from the State University of New York at Delhi, then went on to the State University of New York at Albany, to earn his bachelor's degree. Erman later earned his master's degree from Siena College as an evening student. He drove from Delhi Tech to Siena one night a week. He did not like to drive, but he wanted this degree.
His first job was with Beech-Nut Baby Food in Canajoharie, then he taught accounting courses at Delhi Tech, then worked at IBM in Endicott. His next job was at the N.Y.S. Legislative Commission on Expenditure Review in downtown Albany, from there he went to the Ways & Means Committee (with an office in the Capitol), where he helped work on the New York State Budget. From there he spent 18 years working for the federal government as the associate manager at the St. Lawrence Seaway in Massena, N.Y., retiring in 2000.
He was a very smart man, but with dementia, he was not the same. He was a big sports fan, but not anymore. It was so sad.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Richard. Erman is survived by his wife, Annabelle; his son, Michael; his sister and brother-in-law, Carolee and Ralph Wright; and cousins, William and Doris Martin. He is also survived by many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, on Wednesday, May 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. All are invited to attend his funeral service following at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Erman's memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 139 South Lake Ave., Albany, NY, 12208.
