Ernest Spencer Adams, Jr. 92 of Cleveland, TN passed away on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 at Tennova Healthcare in Cleveland. Ernest was born on February 11, 1931, in Murfreesboro, TN to the late Ernest Spencer Adams, Sr. and Effie (Roller) Adams. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Valter and Amy Adams, father and mother-in-law, Earl and Ruth Calfee. Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Geneva (Calfee) Adams: son, David (Angie) Adams and grandsons, Josh and Cameron Adams of Louisville, KY; brothers in law, Frank (Pat) Calfee, Terry (Dianna) Calfee; sister-in-law, Frances (Jerry) and numerous loving nephews and nieces. Ernest played football for and graduated from MTSU, where he also met Geneva (Miss MTSU). He served in the Army and was based in Aberdeen, MD. Upon returning to Cleveland, Ernest taught drafting in the Bradley County School system for 40+ years. During the summer months, he and David built spec homes in Cleveland for many years. Throughout his years of teaching, Ernest not only mentored students, but also organized and chaperoned many drafting students in VICA national competitions and collaborated with local companies to help place students in their first places of employment. Ernest was an active member and Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. In his spare time, Ernest enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and other historical books. A memorial will be held at noon on Saturday, December 16th, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland, TN. Visitation will be 10-12pm at the church. Ernest’s wishes were that the burial be private, immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to your charity of choice.
