Ernest Charles Bohar

Ernest Charles Bohar, aged 91, a cherished patriarch, and a pillar of the Bethlehem community, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026. Born on October 22, 1934, in Bethlehem, Ernest lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his passions.
Ernest's journey began as the beloved son of the late Adam and Sophie Bohar. His early years in Bethlehem laid the foundation for a life of hard work and commitment. He met and married the love of his life, the late Jean Humes, and together they raised a family that would be his pride and joy. Ernest was a devoted father to Jody Fliter of Bethlehem, Penny Weiss and her husband Timothy of Allentown, the late William Brinsko, and the late Ernest Bohar Jr. His legacy continued through his daughter-in-law Denise Bohar and his cherished sister-in-laws Chris Tinari and Linda Humes.
A proud grandfather, Ernest's face would light up with joy at the mention of his grandchildren: Eric, Christopher, Kayla, Lacey, and Jenna. Each of them carried a piece of his spirit and his teachings, and they will continue to honor his memory through their lives. Ernest is also survived by nieces and nephews. He enjoyed his Friday night clam dinners with his niece Cindy Kurtz and her husband George, and his dear friends Ken and Kathy Remaly.
Ernest's work ethic was unparalleled, and he dedicated many years to Bethlehem Steel, working at the blast furnace. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and grit, someone who could always be relied upon. His commitment to his work was matched only by his involvement in his community. As a member of Blessed Trinity at Rosemont, Ernest's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in service and love.
His Christian beliefs were the compass by which he navigated the world, and he found joy in fellowship and community service. Ernest's interests were a reflection of his vibrant personality. An avid golfer, he spent many a sunny day on the greens, perfecting his swing and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts. His love for playing pool was well-known, and he was a respected member of the Heights AA, Wanderers, and North End Republican Club.
Ernest's passion for sports was not just a pastime but a way of life. He was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, his loyalty unwavering through every season. His enthusiasm for his teams was infectious, and game days were always a special event in the Bohar household.
Services: A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 7th at 11 AM at Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St, Bethlehem, PA 18018. A calling hour will occur at 10 AM until the start of the service. Following the services, a burial will take place at Bethlehem Memorial Park, 1851 Linden St, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
