His Legacy Ernest Wyman DeCare (Ernie), age 65, passed away February 25, 2024. He was born on October 21, 1958 in Alpena, Michigan to Victor DeCare and Esther (Bahling) DeCare. Ernie will be remembered as big jokester who loved to go hunting and fishing. Ernie liked demolition derbies and playing Poker or Uno with his friends. Ernie like to draw and paint using watercolors. He absolutely loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. Last summer Ernie got his dream fulfilled thanks to the staff at the Willows of Howell through their, "Live a Dream" program. Ernie got to ride on a motorcycle in a sidecar in a motorcycle event and said it was the best day of his life.
His Family Ernie will be greatly missed by his siblings, Larry DeCare, Gloria (Larry) Sinkler, Christine DeCare, Julie McAlpine, Rodney (Evelyn) DeCare, Alger (Rondi) DeCare; sister-in-laws, Betty (Eldon) DeCare, Elaine (Lonnie) DeCare and Elizabeth (William) DeCare; along with his many nieces, nephews and best friend, Toby Slater. He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Esther DeCare; his siblings, Dale DeCare, Eldon DeCare, Joan (Walter) Gibbs, Bill DeCare and Lonnie DeCare.
His Farewell Ernie's family and friends will gather for visitation 11:00am-8:00pm, Saturday, March 2, and Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 12:00-1:00pm at McWilliams Funeral Home, 504 W. Washington Ave, Alpena, Michigan. A Celebration of life service beginning at 1:00pm on March 3, 2024, at McWilliams Funeral Home. Candice Black will serve as celebrant. I would like to think I became a a friend to Ernie as I came to know him just a little during his stay at the Willows Retirement Community in Howell, For the past 14 months, I have worked at the Willows as a Dining Room Assistant, and I came in contact with Ernie, sometimes delivering his food or a coffee. But, most of all, I strived to deliver a little friendship, whenever I could. Most of the time, it was in the form of a friendly two-handed handshake, or a pat on the shoulder when I could make my way to his table. I visited him a few times in his room, and even laughed together over a game or two of checkers. I must say that I am truly saddened when' belatedly, I found out he has passed on into God's hands. I will be missing him these days into the weekend as a walk by "his" table. And I pray for him today,
