He was educated with Bartow County School System and was a hard worker. He retired after 37 years of service from Galey and Lord in Shannon, GA. He enjoyed talking on the CB radio to his friends and teaching his great great-grandson, Karter how to operate it. He also loved talking on the phone and checking on everyone in the family. We each had a different time that he would call. He enjoyed watching his Westerns, playing his guitar and listening to his blues. Most of all he enjoyed talking about the old days. Ernest was like a walking history book with in-depth detail of his family and his community. He was a faithful member and the honorary father of Gray's Chapel AME Church.
Ernest leaves to cherish his memories, his companion, Lenora Kellogg of Rome, Georgia; step-children, Annie Bell Sanders of Kingston, Georgia, Melvin (Shirley) Lowe of Riverdale, Georgia, Leroy (Bobbie) Carter of Cartersville, Georgia, James Moore of Rome, Georgia; daughters-in-law, Joan Carter of Adairsville and Cora Lowe of Detroit, Michigan; sister, Jo Ella (Billy) Whitaker of Albany, Georgia; brother, Hilson (Mary) Hayes of Hinesville, Georgia; and Gina Brown (sister/niece).
