Ernest Land Sr., age 75, longtime resident of West Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Monday evening, October 6, 2025, at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minnesota.
Ernest John Land Sr., was born September 28, 1950, in Oak Park, Illinois, to Ernest O. and Catherine (Maroni) Land. He lived in various communities in the Chicago area until his family settled in West Chicago. During high school he enlisted in the US Marines and entered active duty on January 30, 1968. His service included a tour in Vietnam and he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He received his Honorable Discharge on October 28, 1970.
While in junior high school, Ernest caught the attention of fellow student Jeanie Lynn True. Years later, while on military leave, Ernest reconnected with Jeanie and they married on September 26, 1970, in West Chicago, where they made their home. Ernest worked for Tech Plastics for over 20 years, and in 2015, he retired from SMT Manufacturing. Ernest and Jeanie moved to Rochester, Minnesota, in 2025 to be near their son and daughter-in-law Ernest and Casey.
Ernest enjoyed watching movies and was a former member of the American Legion. He was quiet, independent, hard working, and instilled a strong work ethic in his children. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jeanie; his children Ernest Jr. (Casey) of Rochester, Kelly Land of Bourbonnais, IL; 7 grandchildren Davis (David), Elias (Hayven), Elijah, MacKayla, Angelina, Noel, and Steven; his brother Otis (Bonnie) Land; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Sergio Jr., and his brother Robert.
Arrangements are with the Bierman, Benson & Langehough Funeral Home & Crematory. www.northfieldfuneral.com
