Mr. Gilbert Wayne Land, aged 90, of Andrews, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025. Born on May 28, 1935, in Lamesa, Texas, Gilbert was a man of integrity, warmth, and deep faith. His life was a testament to the love and dedication he had for his family, his work, and his community.
Gilbert's journey began in the heart of Lamesa, where he was raised by his parents, William Clarence Land and Willie Whitaker Land. After attending Lamesa High School, he proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves. Gilbert then embarked on a fulfilling career as a butcher, a profession he diligently pursued for thirty-five years across West Texas. His work was not just a job but a craft he honed with passion and precision.
A devout Christian, Gilbert was a longstanding member of the First Assembly of God, where he found solace and strength in his faith. His commitment to his church was unwavering, and he served it with the same dedication he applied to every aspect of his life. Gilbert's interests were as rich and varied as his character. He was a talented painter and woodworker, creating beautiful pieces. His love for grilling was also well known among his family and friends.
On December 13, 1952, Gilbert married the love of his life, Bernice Ann Light, in his hometown of Lamesa. Their union was blessed with seventy-two years of marriage, during which they created a legacy of love and joy that would resonate through generations. Together, they raised a family that included their three children. Left to cherish his memory Penny Moore and her husband Dennis, Dennis Land and his wife Cynthia, and Doug Land and his wife Tammi, all of whom carry forward his values and spirit.
The light of Gilbert's life shone brightly through his grandchildren Misty Hull and her husband Cody, Bradley Land and his wife Kaylee, Nathan Land and his wife Alisha, Blake Land and his wife Katie, Colton Land and his wife Lacy, Ashley Land, Austin Land and his wife Tatum, and Allison Land. His twenty-two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren added even more joy to his life, each of them cherishing the moments and lessons shared with their beloved patriarch.
Gilbert is reunited in eternity with his parents and his siblings Grady Lee Land and Felba Upchurch, who preceded him in passing. His memory will be held dear by the numerous friends and extended family members.
