Ernest MacFerran Obituary

Ernest Leslie MacFerran,79, of Murphy, was called home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
He was born in South Bend, Ind., but moved to Tampa, Fla., at six months old with his family.
He was a 1963 graduate of Plant High School, later earning a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from the University of South Florida in 1967.
He began his career working for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville, Tenn. Ernie worked as a mechanical engineer throughout his life with various companies until finally retiring from Hillsborough County Schools in August of 2013. He was recognized as "Engineer of the Year," both regionally and at the state level while working in Florida.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Messiah and the Brotherhood of Saint Andrew.
Ernie was a very sociable and likeable man. He enjoyed joking around and continued to do so up until his passing.
Surviving are his wife, Janice MacFerran; three children, Alan MacFerran and wife Ava, Alisa Crocker and husband Brian, and Tom Auton and wife Yukari; one sister, Joanne MacFerran; 10 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. He is also survived by four nieces and his beloved dog, Lulu.
He was the son of the late Ernie Sr. and Pearl Stook MacFerran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Susan MacFerran and Nancy Kurtz.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah and announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, is in charge of all arrangements.

Ernie was one of my favorite people. You couldn´t fail to notice him when walked in the room with a twinkle in his eyes and fully positioned to share the humor of the moment in most subtle and sublime ways. Our Brotherhood of St Andrews will not be the same without him. He will be sorely missed by those who had the special privilege of knowing Ernie. My deepest condolences to his wife and family.
