Ernest Joseph Machado, age 88, a longtime resident of Dracut passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Claudette Lillian (Allard) Machado with whom he enjoyed 63 years of marriage.
He was born in Lowell on March 21, 1937, and was the son of the late Ernest Perry Machado and Lucille Marie (Lambert) Machado.
He was raised and educated in the town of Dracut and proudly served two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following his service, he dedicated the majority of his career to his work as a General Contractor, building homes throughout Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.
He was deeply involved in his local community, serving in various capacities including as a member of the Planning Board, Selectman, and the Parks & Recreation Department. Ernest had a lifelong passion for classic and antique automobiles, as well as New England sports, and took particular interest in the Golden Gloves boxing tournaments.
He also enjoyed boating and snowmobiling in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, and cherished family vacations, especially the many trips to Walt Disney World.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Michael Ernest Machado of Carmel and David Raymond Machado and his wife Pamela of Dunstable; his grandchildren David and his wife Margaret Blagbrough, Sarah, Arabella, and Calder; his sisters Mary Lou Ledoux and her husband Paul, Janet DeJesus and her husband Edward, and Doris Fortune and her long-time partner Harold Knepper as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant a tree in his memory.
His funeral service and interment will be held privately.
