Ernest "Ray" Scott, a cherished soul known for his kindness and gentle spirit, passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on October 23, 1949, Ernest's life was a testament to the virtues of love, patience, and faithfulness. His unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Martha Scott, who was not only his wife but truly his soulmate. Their love was one of mutual respect and shared passions, including their enjoyment of fishing and traveling together. His legacy continues through his children: son Matt Scott (Meagan), and daughters Lauren Scott and Josie Scott. His sister Jean Pipkin (Kenny), brother Jimmy Scott (Rhonda), grandchildren Autumn Gaskill, Lucas Gaskill, Brystol White, Carolina Bauer, Abel Scott, and Buck Scott, along with multiple nieces and nephews, will hold dear the memories of his kindness.
Before his peaceful passing, Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Clara Scott, and Rhonda Scott, the mother of his children. The values and lessons he learned from his parents were evident in the way he lived his life and raised his own family.
Ray was a man of faith and service, exemplified by his role as a Deacon at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in Whortonsville. His Christian beliefs were the cornerstone of his existence, shaping his actions and interactions with others. He lived by the well-known biblical teaching, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," a principle that guided him through life's journey.
In 1996, Ray founded R & R Trucking business, hauling gravel and rock with an unwavering commitment to hard work and integrity. His professional life was marked by the same principles that defined his personal life: honesty, reliability, and kindness. Through his business, he not only provided for his family but also contributed to the growth and prosperity of his community.
Ray's hobbies brought him great joy and relaxation. He was an avid golfer, finding solace in the quiet concentration of the game. His love for old western movies, particularly those starring John Wayne, was well-known among friends and family. Ray also cherished the time spent outdoors, whether it was deer and turkey hunting or simply enjoying nature's beauty.
A man of quiet strength, Ray never raised his voice; he was even-tempered and never seemed to be mad. His presence was a source of comfort and stability to those around him. If you knew Ray, you automatically liked him-a sentiment echoed by all who crossed his path.
Ernest "Ray" Scott's life was one of purpose and meaning. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His was a life well-lived, full of moments that will be treasured by those who were lucky enough to share them with him. As we bid farewell to Ray, let us honor his memory by embodying the love and kindness he so effortlessly displayed throughout his life.
A Celebration of Ray's Life will be held at later date.
